January Study (2023)

Project type

Sketchbook Study

Date

January 2023

I didn't plan to do a nude study but yooo, I'm happy my first (study) arto is a Belial nude. Yeeeeeeeee!
ヽ(o^▽^o)ノ

I recently bought packs of real life nude references from 2 studios in Artstation so I be using those for my studies and serious artos from now on.

These are my affiliate links to those refs that I used for this study;
1) Male Act by Satine Zillah https://www.artstation.com/a/23458009
2) Male Dynamic Pose References by Mels Mneyan
https://www.artstation.com/a/23270293

This is a very spur of the moment study and it's only because Cygames dropped a very naughty concept art of Belial so this study be heavily based on that too. Also, a screenshot from the GBF Versus Rising Trailer of Belial stomping on Gran.

Also, I be trying out a drastically different colouring technique for this! I actually grinded pieces of old unused coloured pencils (nu-uh, I'm hella not grinding up my Faber-Castell set lol). Then, I smudge those pieces all over the arto. After that, I coloured my usual way with my coloured pencils. I'm glad it turned out alright!
\(^▽^)/
Felt like it made me colour faster but I really dunno for sure. I don't record myself drawing Belial nude studies so I dunno my time. (=~=)

Whilst colouring, I didn't realise that I was using a KFC coloured pencil. It was bought a looooooong ass time ago (more than 2 decades ago?) when KFC had some sort of clubhouse thingy. Goddamnit, even in bara tiddy arto, I can't escape my family's terrible taste for KFC. I'll happily grind the remaining KFC pencils out till they're gone tho. They're hella terrible for normal coloured pencil techniques but not bad for smudging.

I didn't use my Polychromos pencils at all for this, as usual. Just used the Masterarts pencils for normal colouring. I think a bit of Faber-Castell Classic series set too. Surprisingly, the cheap Masterarts pencils are TERRIBLE for grinding and smudging. They be too creamy for grinding but they're hard to blend on paper? It's really a confusing set of coloured pencils but they still get the job done. They're actually nice for a cheap set of coloured pencils.

With that, there's more to clean up after finishing the arto when using this technique tho. But ah well. Definitely using this technique for future arto! XD

Drawn in my A4 sketchbook with Faber-Castell Classic Series coloured pencils, Master Art coloured pencil (black only) Himi Oil Pastels & White and Gold Gelly Sakura Pens.
